Today I went to see....

The Hunger Games
May the odds be ever in your favor!

Got up early for Saturday and headed out to the mall to see the movie. My daughter bought the tickets last night online and we got them and went to the theater. (18 to choose from).
Wasn't crowded when we got there, but there was a decent size crowd eventually.

I've read all 3 books and really enjoyed them. I hope the good opening this one had will lead to the producers doing the next too books.

Drizzling when we left for home and tonight we had a nice rain.

Time for night night.

Mom and Me

I'm a grown woman. At least in appearance and in age, but there's that free wheeling kid who loved to drink, dance and party in her 20's still in the back of my head. There were many Saturdays in college when I got up and went to work with a fuzzy head. I loved Fridays to go out to dance bars.

But as with all things, time passes. With that comes responsibility. I'm my Mom's helper. She's 87, lives at home, drives herself, and is pretty independent. But she got sick last week and it really threw her for a loop. She was hospitalized after an 16 hour ordeal in the ER. She had a horrible sinus infection which was due to a virus that got her. The infectious disease doctor that she saw said it is in near epidemic proportion in our area of the county. Scary stuff, since I'm on an immunosuppresant and my immune system is compromised. So far so good, no symptoms.

I make sure she's doing ok, drive her places and go to her doctor's appointments with her. She doesn't like her hearing aids so I go and listen to the doctor and then tell her what is going on. I'm on her accounts and on her safe deposit box. That way if anything happens I can pay the bills on the house and keep things in check.

I've got to get things done. So later peeps.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window. . . 62, windy and hazy

I am thinking… that I got a lot done for Mom today.

I am thankful for…  having Mom back home healthy

From the learning rooms… unless the car is registered to me, I can’t get disabled plates. 8-(

I can't believe . . . DMV is so stingy. They charge for everything.

From the kitchen. . . . Spaghetti and garlic breadsticks tonight

I am wearing…  leggings, a long shirt and slippers

I am creating . . . a map for my garden

I am going…   to take a muscle relaxer for my back

I am reading . . . A bunch of things.

I am hoping…  That Mom stays healthy

I am hearing…  The neighbors dog barking
Around the house. . .  Never ending dishes

One of my favorite things… little babies

A few plans for the rest of the week
1.  Pick up my prescriptions
2.  Write at least 2 letters
3.  Organize my computer

Been really busy

My 87 yr old mom spent 3 1/2 days in the hospital. I'm still formulating my rant about the ER so this won't be it. Being the sibling in the neighborhood (the other one is 1900 miles away) it's up to me to make sure that she's taken care of, her meds are current and she sees the doc when she needs to. As I tell people, I'm the good child as opposed to the perfect child.

Today I woke up with my sinuses all congested. I am hoping my allergy pill will take care of it. I can't afford to be sick like Mom. My chest is feeling like an elephant is sitting on it.
Not good.

The children went to see the Hunger Games today and they said it was marvelous. I am glad they saw it. I want to see it as well. I loved the book and when I saw still shots of the actress playing Katniss walking with the guards, that's exactly how I had pictured her in my mind. Not too sure about Woody Harrelson playing Haymitch. Maybe?? I read the three books in 4 days. They were so interesting that I couldn't put them down, or actually put the Kindle down.

Listening to a young Whitney Houston sing. Sad. Such talent thrown away to drugs.

Peace and out.

Just you wait, big ole hospital, just you wait!

Coming soon. A precise and detailed rant on 9 hours in an emergency room.
Not tonight because I am still recovering from said adventure. Pfiffle.

muscle relaxers and pain pills

I have moderate arthritis in the cervical vertebrae of my neck. Sometimes it doesn't bother me, but other times I have a time dealing with it. So I took some action and went to the doctor. Got some meds to take and hopefully this flair will be over soon. They are referring me to another specialist to see what can be done about my neck. I had surgery in 1966 to remove most of my sternocleidomastoid muscle from the left side of my chest, in the hopes that the torticollis affecting my skull would resolve itself. It is accompanied by cervical dystonia. Not a nice thing. So I've dealt with the impact of this for over 45 years. Affects my driving, typing, nerve impulses to the fingers on the right hand. A whole potpourri of problems.

It started out cold and wet this morning, lots of fog. Sidewalks were wet and there were drip spots off the roof. It's just a precursor to the storm we are expecting this weekend. It's warmer in Central Wisconsin right now than it is in southern Ca. Go figure. And global warming is a joke? I don't think so.

Not much else new and exciting. Just the same old same old.

Sunday in the dark with Duffy

I don't like daylight savings time. It messes up my circadian rhythm and my sleep cycle. Don't like it one little bit.

Trying to read a book and I can't keep my eyes open. No reason. Guess that's the body telling me to take a nap.

Sunny and windy, mid 60's out the window. Dealt with drunk kids last night, one of mine and one their friend. Lucky we had a futon to crash on. I'm a good mom. I rub my kids back and tell her she'll live. Why these kids mix drinks is beyond me. Stick with one thing.

Had one tiny shoot of hair on my chin. Damn I hate that. Finally it came out enough that I could grasp it with tweezers. Sucker was a good 1/4 long under the surface. No wonder it bugged me. Pretty soon I'll go and have the chin, lips, and eyebrows waxed.

Nothing else to say. Peace and out.

Saturday Night's All Right

The kids are off to a birthday party with 2 containers of cupcakes, a box full of liquor (designated driver is assigned) and we're all by ourselves.

Normally we'd be watching some odd science show on the Science Channel or History oddities on H2. The real situation is that my husband had to go out on a frivolous call last night at 215AM because the on call guy was sick (drunk actually) and he didn't want to go out to Riverside. Since the husband is a stand up kind of guy, he told him to call the boss and get it Ok'd. So he drives all the way out to Riverside to adjust a lock that could have waited till this morning. He said and I quote, " It took me longer to write up the service ticket than it did to fix the lock!".

All the clocks that I can change are changed. I hate this early spring forward crap.

Bah humbug.

Where'd the back ache come from?

I've had shoulder problems for nigh onto 9 years now. But the last few days I've been having really bad problems with my lower back. I was standing in line at the pharmacy when it hit like a bomb. I've got pain meds, but I have to drive and I'd rather not take that chance. So I'll do my shopping with my daughter and then come home, take a pain med and try to get comfortable. I'll also look for my rice pack and use that. So I've ordered 2 things from Amazon that should help, a heating pad and a rice pack. I've got a small rice pack but it doesn't last long enough.

Out to do some shopping with my daughter. She's looking for jeans and our favorite store has jeans on sale. Love to find sales like that!

Play me a little song Cap'n please!

Wonder if he knows how to play the blues?

I love the cat's face.

And you wonder where the Goa'uld's are really hiding.

He doesn't look like the Barnabas Collins I remember.

Road Trip

My mom called me after she got home from church today and she was pretty upset. A friend of ours is dying. She is the same age as my husband and is dying from untreated melanoma. Being fair complected and a true redhead she was at a higher risk than some. She let it go and she has refused any and all medical treatment, though now she is using hospice. Why she is doing this is beyond me. She's well educated, Stanford MA, and is so talented. But she's dying of a disease that had she sought treatment for she might have survived. She's got a daughter who's pregnant with her 2nd child and a husband who adored her. They will be left without her. Her mom and dad are friends as well. There are times you don't know what to pray for.

On to better things. So my mom was kind of blue. She picked me and my daughter up this afternoon and we headed east. We went out towards Riverside. We went to the California Citrus Grove State Historical Park. Picked up some things in the gift shop, got back on the road and went to the Riverside National Cemetery to see if the new stone was placed on my MIL's grave. It wasn't. We drove around the cemetery and looked at the memorial for the Medal of Honor winners. It's very fitting. Back on the road and we stopped at Evelyn's Farm Market in Riverside, got some oranges and vegetables and headed home. Driving west with the sun setting is not fun. The traffic was good though and we didn't slow down at all. Thank goodness for the diamond lane.

Yesterday after a nice family brunch at the beach with my cousins from Illinois, the spousal unit and I went to Westchester and the roof of a Ralph's store where there is a parking lot that overlooks the north runway complex at LAX. It's hard to see but there are 2 Qantas A380's parked in a holding area and a Singapore Airlines A380 sitting at a gate at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. As we were leaving we saw the Korean Airlines A380 floating in the pattern to come in. Big Airplanes.
We then drove west to the beach which is past the end of the runways at the west. It was a lovely day, light winds, moderate temps, and lots and lots of sail and power boats on the ocean. We saw some sightseeing helicopters buzzing up and down the beach. It was a wonderful day to sit and watch the water.

This morning it was already in the high 70's when I got up. I let the dog outside and he decided to lay in the sun for a while.
Looks very regal for such a little guy.

Next week has some appointments and perhaps a surprise or two.
