Oh the weather outside is .......

We have a fancy schmancy thermometer in our motor home. It is synched to some satellite thing or another (I didn't buy it and didn't read the instructions). Anyway. The dear husband went out to check on something and clicked on low temperature. Last night in our little camper the low INSIDE was 36.2˚ It was even colder outside. No wonder the dog decided that under the covers was a better place to be. Even with noxious emissions it must have been warmer.

We had a nice Thanksgiving. It ended up being 8 people as opposed to 12. There was a wonderfully moist breast of turkey ( basted with real butter) and a honey baked ham, dressing and real cranberry sauce. Taters and gravy and just a nice dinner. I didn't even eat dessert. I brought it and left it. I also left some wonderful white Stilton cheese with cranberries and one with apricots. In fact yesterday I cleaned out my fridge looking for the Kaukauna cheese logs that I was sure I had at home. Nope. Well they are being enjoyed.

The Packers played a good game but got beat. I was happier last week when they smacked the Vikings. But as is known in sports, you can't win them all. I wish Mr Favre all the happiness in life, but this year he really, really has to retire. He's butted heads with the ex head coach and got him fired. He's not that good anymore.

We are hoping to get a new stove this week. If so, I'll be baking like a mad woman for the next few weeks. The 70's era Kenmore we have has no handle for the oven, there are no markings on the oven knob and it's just sad. I have to guess at what temp things cook. Not good. So we'll spend $100 and have a less than new one but one that works. At least that is what I am hoping.

We're going to be moving again. Ack. But the landlord can't afford to keep this house, his ranch, and his new house. He's going to let it go. We could, if we scrimped and saved and did wonderful things, buy it but honestly, it needs updating. Another 100K most likely to remodel the kitchen, add a 2nd bath and put in a bathroom in the back house. Not to mention gates and fix fences. It would be easier to move and get what we want in a rental/lease.

So my friends, it's time to end this missive. Cheers to Trader Joes for their nice table white called Autumnus, which I am not drinking today. Not drinking anything except for the real thing....

And now to the news:
1. The Koreas are going to cause me heartburn.
2. Sarah Palin should be sent to North Korea on a peace mission since she thinks they are our allies.
3. Her daughter should have never gotten to the finals of DWTS.
4. Just as easily as they were voted in the new Republican majority in the House can be voted out.
5. The TSA treats every passenger as if they are a terrorist threat to this country.
5. The TSA is going to cause airlines to lose money.
6. What exactly are we doing in Afghanistan? We've been there longer than the Russians and what did they do?
7. I am going to get myself a new Ipod.
8. My gingerbread candle makes the living room smell nice.
9. Dearfoam makes the best slippers. Got them for myself and my daughter at Costco. It's like wearing a cloud of cotton.
10. Does the search for the perfect boot ever end?????????

Peace and out.

Book reading jag, random thoughts and stuff

I was on a book reading jag for a week or two. I think I read them as fast as I got them. Now I'm off the kick and can read a couple of chapters and put the book down and come back to it. It's odd but it's the way I am. (Don't tell my kids).

And it's getting time to really clean out the kitchen and get ready to cook. But not today. Today it was 100 freaking degrees outside. I am not kidding and the humidity was 10%. Not exactly conducive to getting the old pie stuff out and making some pies or quick breads. I want some pumpkin bread but not that badly. My mom wants to have pork loin for dinner on Thanksgiving. My husband doesn't like pork loin. So I will get a boneless turkey roll for him. I like pork loin, not as much as ham, I do love me some ham. Dressing, beans, goodies.

This is what fall looks like around here. The maple tree has turned rusty but hasn't lost it's leaves. The elm tree in the front yard never loses its leaves but the tree down the street is bare. And then we have our lovely palms which just get dirtier. I trimmed them this weekend and paid dearly, but I was angry and had to do something to get my venting out. They are a lot cleaner and one is a lot less ragged. Why anyone would plant 4 palm trees in a planter is beyond me. Or plants 6 little palms and 2 pine trees in an enclosed one in front of the house. Odd but true.

I am raising my daughter like this. She is talented and smart. She doesn't need to have any authority from her father transferred to her spouse when she gets married. She is always under the protection of her dad but we don't see it as something that is divined by scripture. We both would lay down our lives for our children. I read a lot of blogs that are written by people who are involved in Quiverfull, Vision Forum and other ultra conservative patriarchal communities. Their aim is to breed out the rest of America. Not gonna happen. They may be in their lily white enclaves now, but I gotta tell you, we are the minority and will be. Homeschool their children with sketchy wisdom booklets that alter history. You might have read about TX and their alteration of their American History Books. This to the max. Sorry, there are too many "others" out there and as long as the 1st amendment stands it's going to hopefully protect everyone who isn't part of their agenda.

Several months ago I wrote about a train wreck that I follow. She's dragged her kids (since March) from Michigan to New York to Ohio to Kentucky to New York to Pennsylvania to New York to Kentucky and now she says they're saving pennies to go to NV because there are jobs there. She's admitted out loud that her oldest of the two she's got with her has a severe discipline problem and needs to be on meds. She's gone back with the guy who gave her so much grief. She's had a tubal yet she constantly thinks she's pregnant. She's got heart problems. Right now she's living in a shelter. They are planning on staying in a motel till after Christmas and then moving to Nv. I asked her if she's researched jobs there? They have a horrible unemployment rate and the services that she will need for her kids are hard to get. I think any wisdom that I may impart falls on deaf ears. I really worry about her kids. They have no sense of home. Dragged from pillar to post. Sleeping in shelters and motels. Pray for them.

Well it's time to fly away.

November 1, 1951

59 years ago today my mom and dad got married. Although he would die in 1964 of a massive aortic aneurysm they had a good marriage till the day he died. He would be 111 years old if he was alive today. I have memories of my dad and mom and thank God that my mom is still with us today.

That's all for today.
