Biding my Time (small rant about medications)

I don't understand why people who have legitimate pain have to beg for pain relief. I have a lot of pain from this surgery. I asked for a refill and he said absolutely not but I'll give you this instead. The instead is not going to cut it. Unfortunately I am at the whim of doctors who are afraid of having addicted patients. Guess what guys, I am an adult and I know what works for me.

The same thing with benzodiazepines. I took a low dose 2x a day for many years and my ADD was under control. Then the govt said oh no, look at all these prescriptions and these people are addicted. So now I take antidepressants which modify some symptoms but not all.

I know in the long run these things don't mean a whole lot, but after 8 months of confinement, a little less hinky would be nice.

We ordered a full boneless breast meal from the market. Comes with everything you need, but I'll make a couple of more sides like corn pudding to go with the other veggies. And at least 2 more pies. This family likes pies, and we've been known to have cold pumpkin pie with whipped cream for breakfast. I will make my own cranberry sauce with grand marnier to flavor it.

Christmas I will have helpers at the house so that is going. to be a maple pecan glazed ham with scalloped potatoes and several veggies. That's more of a grazing meal than anything. Veggies, cheese balls, crudites, firschgurken, olives, you name it. It's spread out on the table and get what you want to eat. Settle in.

It's grey outside, light grey not stormy. A balmy 64ยบ here. I am still in my night gown, since I'm not going anywhere or doing anything. I will change into my comfy sweats and watch a few more episodes of whatever catches my fancy. Yesterday was the Borgias, but Jeremy Irons looks so ghastly in it. There's always Outlander, The Witcher, and Lucifer to amuse me.

A good holiday to those who have one next week, a good lockdown to all of us.

Peace

Another debate... this one with added participants

Ah the uninvited fly,we know what flies like to land on.

I have to admit that we had quite the laugh over the fly and what it's appearance meant.

It was another appearance of a man who does not value women. Ignoring time limits and the moderator. Talking over Ms Harris. But Ms Harris, thank goodness reacted calmly and claimed her time. "I'm speaking, do not interrupt me". Perhaps he thought that he could do the same as his boss did. He did not answer questions, deflecting his answers to the old tried and not true. Claiming that this administration relied on SCIENCEPlease girl, I don't want to spit on my popcorn.

And today one side says of the next debate, they aren't going to do a virtual debate because. . . . no good reasons. I wouldn't want to be within 10 feet of him. And the fact that he won't wear a mask because "he's immune, he's invincible". Oh wait till the steroids go.Fast fall, I've been on steroids. Felt great, then BOOM!

Well as my dear departed mom would say, such is life.

Just remember you have to vote, if you don't, you have no right to be a critic. Be a part of the solution.

33 years ago today

We drove to Little Company of Mary at 645AM to be admitted for a planned C-Section that afternoon. I had to be there at 7 for some paperwork and then upstairs to L&D. I was angry at my husband because he hadn't brushed his teeth and his breath could have knocked down a horse. I didn't want to smell that as I was supposed to be laboring. So we stopped and he got coffee. That was better.

We got to the hospital and went through all the admissions stuff and we were taken upstairs to the 4th floor. I was changing into my gown and got my IV's in and was going to the bathroom because those days, you had to have an enema if you were having a c-section (thankfully that stopped by the time #2 came around). I was standing there talking to the nurse when the room started shaking and rolling. My husband who is standing there against the wall, said "This is going to be a big one", I gave him the evil eye and said to the nurse, "well that's that, I am going home". She said nope. I got back in the bed and we turned on the news. We saw Kent Shocknek, then a reporter for KNBC Channel 4 dive under the desk as an aftershock hit and the big overhead lights in the studio were swaying. That made us laugh, as we were experiencing aftershocks for quite some time.

The doctor came and broke my water because the hospital required a trial of labor. I had full blown contractions within 15 minutes. They came strong and fast but I could have pushed till the kingdom came because he didn't drop.

At 1230 they moved me into the delivery room, in bounced my husband covered in PPE as they call it now. I had my spinal (push out her back not your butt A) and felt some tugging below the curtain. at 1313 out he came. He was sunny side up and he hollered when they took him from his nice warm nest.  In a matter of  seconds I went from being R's wife to J's mom.

33 years later, he's a man. Due to circumstances he still lives with us. He is a helper though, driving me places when I absolutely have to go, helping me with grocery shopping and heavy things. He's had some ups and downs but he's a good guy.

So Happy Birthday to my son.

30 September, 2020

That was a shitshow.

What a disgusting 100 minutes of television

So I've been voting in presidential elections since 1972 and I have been pretty opinionated. Watching the debate between Mr Trump and Mr Biden. I was disgusted. It was watching a 5 year old school yard bully shouting and not paying attention to direction. Why agree to terms if you're not going to follow them. I took speech and debate in college and That was not a debate.

I know who I'm voting for because a man who tells white supremacists to “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by!” should not be leading this country.

I am not worried if you don't agree with me. That's what is so great about this country and the Constitution, we are allowed to have the right to express our views.

So my choice for president in this awful election is:

Peace, Love and Vote like your country depends on it.

Smoke haze and trying to breathe

This is from our front patio at 1300 hrs yesterday. The sky is tainted from the wildfires burning around the LA County area. Breathing is quite strained.  The experts are saying stay inside, don't go outside if you don't have to.

I'll catch up with all of you when I stop yawning.

Had the test today

A person in our household had the test and she tested positive.
Hence we had to get tested. It's one of the most painful swabs I've ever had.
Now we have to wait 3-5 days for results. Monday since the offices aren't open over the weekend.
Don't let anyone tell you that it's a false narrative. 145,000+ cases
in LA County, and nearly 4K deaths.
Being over 65 by a bit, it is scary. Neither of us (spouse) have symptoms but we each have conditions which could be serious.
So now we wait.
Gonna be a long weekend.
Peace Out and WEAR YOUR MASK!

28 June, 2020

Wow I'm older than I've ever been

Today I turned 67 years old.
When I was born, Eisenhower was president, the Korean War was raging, but things weren't bad.

Today America is tattered and torn apart, like a flag that has gone through a hurricane. We have leaders who only wish to enrich themselves and ignore the tragedy of the pandemic virus which ravages our country. I can only hope that November will bring some breath of change. To that I say, if you aren't registered to vote and don't vote, you have nothing to say in the debate.

Wear a mask! Follow the rules!

Wednesday

It's Wednesday afternoon and it's June Gloom. A balmy 72ยบ and lots of humidity.
Since I hate heat, this is perfect weather. The sun may peek out between 1600 and 1730 and then go back behind the clouds. I can open my doors and windows and feel comfortable. Nothing I can do about the humidity.

I've not said anything about the marches, the rioting, the looting, nor the abysmal track record of the LAPD, LASO, and other police departments in this country with regards to their treatment of black citizens. The blatant killings of George Floyd in MN and Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta, and the killing of Breona Taylor in her bedroom March 13th in Louisville. There have been arrests in the Floyd and Brooks cases but none in Louisville. What is the problem? The fact that the incident report was basically blank and it was accepted by their superiors? This is something I truly don't understand?????? Is her death any less tragic than the other?

And of course, COVID-19. I'm wondering if what I had in late Feb early March was it. It was so miserable. But the cough wasn't like the pneumonia I had before. I doubt if my doctor would approve an antibody test, but it would ease some fears. I've never hallucinated like I did with that illness. It was fearsome.

Time to go and think about dinner. I'm leaning towards meat loaf and mashed potatos and some kind of vegetable.

peace.

Driving alongside

Yesterday we took the 101 to Camarillo, putzed around there for a while and then came home via the coast. Honestly there is nothing lovelier than the Pacific coast, whether here in CA or in Alaska. That sand dune is a remnant of an ancient Tsunami. People climb up to the top and enjoy the view. Those little things you see are parked vehicles. The beaches were loaded yesterday and not much social distancing that I could see.

We should have left for home earlier, as it was  bumper to bumper from Zuma Beach, through Malibu and into Santa Monica. I always wonder about the mansions above the ocean in Malibu. If people live there full time or are they getaways. I know many of the homes in the colony are. I don't think I will win the lottery any time soon so I can just look on google.

Other than being depressed healthwise things are ok. I see the ortho next week for my left thumb/wrist arthritis. If I have surgery it will hamper my typing. I guess I will adapt. Have to stop the pain.

Peace... WEAR YOUR MASKS! SOCIAL DISTANCE!

21 May, 2020

I read fanfiction, don't hate me.

I admit it, I do read fanfiction for a certain genre and most of the time I really enjoy it. Back in the old days, I even let an X Files story or two get published on a site. Now I content myself with reading and commenting on stories.  That's good right?

For the last year or so one person has basically taken over the site with stories that make this old teacher weep in their poor construction, grammar that would make a 3rd grader wonder, and I truly believe this person uses text to word to compose. And if you mention spelling problems, they don't get fixed. I quit reading their stories. The writer is from the south and co-opting terms from a different language set sometimes doesn't do it. I wonder how this person has a life outside the fanfiction arena because they publish at least 2 new multi chapter pieces a week. I think the person must eat sleep and drink fanfiction.  And don't get me onto Tumblr either.

Enough grousing. It's still breezy and inland is going to be hot this weekend. We're still pretty much closed as far as shopping goes. Our favorite Mexican restaurant reopened for take out only. I want one of their wet carnitas burritos soon. They have the best red sauce and fresh salsa around here.

Brad Pitt is co-opting my current hair style. I've got a lot of grey interspersed through the back, and white witches streaks through the front. I hate my hair. If I thought I could get away with it, I'd drive the 330 miles to Vegas and get my hair cut. If I don't I'll wait till July and get it cut when my lady goes back to work, if she does.

Also a good recommendation for a binge watch: The Great on Hulu. A bit saucy and a bit risque but loads of fun watching Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult.

Sleep tight, watch out for those covid dreams and we'll get through this.

Blowing a Gale

It's clear and 71ยบ outside and the wind is blowing so hard the fence is shaking. The wind makes the dog hinky and she is really scared. Right now she's asleep. The wind also makes our security camera alert. I looked at my phone and there were 70 warnings.

Listening to the LA County report on Covid-19. 1709 total deaths in LA County; 35,329 total cases. They have relaxed some of the restrictions but basically they are saying stay at home except to go to doctor or go to grocery store. I have some residual lung problems from the pneumonia so I don't go out unless I have to. I truly hate wearing the mask, my glasses get all fogged.

Peace, stay safe, and pay attention to the rules.

12 May, 2020

Now it's going to be September

Because the cases keep happening, the death rate hasn't slowed, LA County is going to keep the stay at home order till the end of August. By then I'm sure I will have read nearly all the books on my Kindle.

Listening to the LA Times podcast interview with Sam Heughan. Outlander Season 5 ended Sunday and it was grueling to watch. If Cait Balfe isn't nominated for an Emmy, Something is wrong with the Academy.

I don't usually listen to podcasts but that is going to change. There is so much out there. I can't watch much news, I get too upset. Even local news bothers me.

My youngest turned 31 this past week. We got her a selection of red lipsticks since she loves red and I went to the LUSH website and picked some cool bath bombs and gel wash. They threw in a container of body salve as well. I miss her. She was planning on coming home in July. But she won't know till June.

Having a time with my hips again and my left hand. Was supposed to see an ortho in April, that got postponed till June. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have surgery on the hand. It's been an ongoing problem for a couple of years and there were only so many injections you can have. The hips are structurally ok, it's the muscles. I've got meds I can take but that makes me groggier than I normally am.

I miss baseball. I wouldn't admit it, but it would be nice to mindlessly watch a team play on TV on Saturday afternoon.

And now it's time to make the rice for dinner and find some mindless show on Amazon with the spouse (who is working).

Peace. Patience.

23 April, 2020

To the end of the driveway and beyond!

I haven't been much further than that. I did venture to the corner, that's 2 houses down the other day to see what was going on since there were police cars, helicopter and ambulances. Seems a homeowner was tired of someone racing down the street (ends in a one way street) and he yelled at them. Said driver got out of car and yelled back whilst the homeowner shot him in the arm. Someone needs anger management.

Hot and there's some wind blowing here. It's the Santana's making themselves known. Wind from the north and it's warm. Might hit the mid 80's down here near the coast. If I can dig out my chair I might sit in the sun some, as long as people don't care about my hairy legs in capris. Just have to be careful because one of my meds makes me sun sensitive.

Our stay at home is mandated till May 15 but I'm fairly sure that LA County will extend it. There are many new cases each day and many more deaths. Being in a risk group (age and health) I think I'll stay here and stay safe.

We did get a nice surprise the other night, found out about the Olive Garden buy one, get one for 12.99. We bought an extra house salad and it was still under 20$. I got s'ketti and the spouse got five cheese ziti. The next time I'm getting the chicken parm or the lasagne. Their food is so good.

My days of the week are all messed up. I wake up and wonder what day it is. If the husband is still in bed at 9AM I know it's the weekend. I've been going to church virtually. It's nice.

So it's back to Netflix, Disney +, Amazon Prime and the Kindle. Reading an interesting book on Mudlarking on the Thames. So many things that come up with the low tide. History.

Peace

08 April, 2020

I've developed a new favorite channel

I love the weather channel. It helps my geography fix. Storms are scary when they happen. I miss having a good old fashioned thunderstorm at night, though my pointer would be sitting on top of me most of the night .

I've been so restless these last few weeks. Can't settle on one thing. I quit watching the briefings, they make me overly anxious and I can't stand the lies. I just don't understand when he lies, people don't call him out on it. Anyone else would get pulverized. And people think he's doing a great job. Bah effing humbug!

And the people who think if they ignore it, it will go away. I can't think that people are that naive. Use your masks and don't take the chance. I just got over pneumonia and it was horrible. Doc said the lungs sounded like velcro.

So take care peeps.
Happy Easter. I'll be here.

01 April, 2020

In the walls, in the walls . . .

So I've been inside for days, no not always inside...I do walk down the path, dodging the neighbours' motorcycle parked there, past the bougainvilleas that need trimming and the budding grapevines to get to the mailbox.
My excursion.
Other than a cough which I attribute to seasonal allergies I'm doing ok.  The husband's job is considered essential and he's thrilled to be working. People still get locked out of their homes and safes still need new combos for the gov't.
We've got TP and paper towels. Food is in good shape.
I am in desperate need of a hair cut and am thinking about shaving my head. I always have short hair but it's way too long for me now. We shall see if I can deal.
Here's a bingo card to use during quarantine.

Peace and out.

20 March, 2020

30 days in the Hole

It's really not so bad as long as there is food and drink in the house. We have several streaming services so there is a good selection of movies and shows to watch.
I've got tons of books on my Kindle so no excuse there.
Bloodshot comes out on digital on the 24th so there's that.
Outlander I can watch on the computer on Saturday night.
Husband is working, they are an essential service.
Peace to all

13 March, 2020

So I.....

was diagnosed with pneumonia and finally am feeling like a human being again.

It started with a cold, then  bronchitis and whammo pneumonia. The hallucinations were the best though, life size mah jong pieces waiting for me to match them. Hundreds of slot reels spinning...

The coronavirus outbreak scares the shit out of me, no lie. I have successfully avoided contact for 2 weeks but my pantry looks a bit grim. I could send the husband to the market, but even with a list and photos, he shops weirdly.
I so want to see Bloodshot but I don't think I can tolerate a theater. Guess I'll have to have delayed gratification for that one. Shoot.
Vin for the husband, Sam for me. Sigh.

So that is it peeps.
WASH YOUR HANDS, SNEEZE IN YOUR ELBOWS AND BE AWARE.
