More fires

You can smell the smoke in the air. The winds are supposed to get worse before they get better. We don't have a lot of wind here, but we have heat.

Saw the PCP on Friday. Valium and steroids to work on the pain. Seems to be helping a little. Back to work tomorrow. Felt good enough to go and get a perm. Life is exciting. What can I say?

Have been cleaning out paperwork. Needed to do it and do some scanning. Have a bit more to do and then will start on my letter writing campaign again.

Nothing like fall in the southern California area.

Well it's not bedtime but it will be early tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Peace. Out.

Hump Day

I got an email from the boy that broke my heart. He was handsome, nice and I sure had fun with him. Nearly 40 years later, I get an email from him. Tugs at the heart a little bit.
We were in band together. How sweet is that?

Work is work. It's been busy enough that I can get through the entire day and get lots of stuff done. I am doing my filing daily now because I don't want to get behind. Too much stuff was not done and now I am trying to do it to keep ahead of the crowd.

Used my crock pot today and did a roast with vegetables and french onion soup mix. It smelled so good. Tasted good too. Lunch tomorrow. I love to cook in the fall. Will start baking bread and making pea soup soon.

Time to crawl off to bed.

Good night.

TGIS

We had rain last night. What a nice way to go to sleep. Falling rain outside my window. And then at 545 finding out big whiny dog had the poops. Not a nice thing. Cleaned it all up and hosed the garage down later in the morning. Some days it's all you can do to praise God for the small things. He seems okay now.

No car today. Husband had to work more overtime. I hope that he isn't too tired. He and kid #1 need to go get their hairs cut. He's worked a lot this week but doesn't go to bed early enough and then he complains about being tired.

Achy today. Work is okay but stressful. I never know from one day to another who will be gone. Seems like people are there and then gone. I get in early and set up my desk and get the area work ready and then I work. No goofing around for me. But when it's time to go I need to go or else I miss a bus and have to wait 45 minutes for the next one. ( The bus situation has also been addressed to the transit company run by the city, the mayor and my councilman, because there is no way they follow their printed schedule). I was told that this isn't the terminal where someone taps you out to leave. I said, I don't get paid overtime and when my time is up, I have to leave. I didn't ask for the schedule change but I like it because it works and I get to work in plenty of time. God, I get so frustrated sometimes and then I get over stressed. That is not good. And in this office, that is a every day fact of life.

So we shall see. I am going to go and finish my Kathy Reich book and then start the new Garrison Keillor book.

Have a good night.

Jury Duty or how to cat nap for 6 hours

Yep today was the day. Get to the jury room at 0800, listen to all the stuff they tell you (and they don't swear you in like other courts) sit and read till 1130 when they tell you it's all pushed to the afternoon. See you at 1330. Come back, 40 out of 150 get sent to a courtroom and at 1445 they tell you to go home. What a waste of time. And you don't even get paid for the first day or mileage. You are doing this for the court. No wonder people don't want to do it. This is basically how I felt this afternoon:

So back to work tomorrow. That will be okay. Phones, phones, and more phones. I can deal with it.

Later alligator.

fall, fall, fall

I really do. It's just that crispness that you almost feel in the air. It's knowing that soon it will be cold enough to wear a jacket to work and then come home and be toasty in front of the fire. It's just that time of year. I even broke out fall decorations and tomorrow, providing I can find the heavy duty stapler I am going to do some decorating.

Didn't watch much today. And my kid just called me to tell me that USC lost to Stanford. And UCLA is losing to Notre Dame. Life is good.

Not much else to say. A little tired and it will be an early night.

Friday...What 's in your luggage?

I am so glad that it's Friday. And a 3 day weekend. What a treat. And we burned a log tonight. Made it seem like fall.

It's snowing in Mammoth, it's windy here and the wind chill is making things chilly. There are kids all over the house and I am looking forward to sleeping past 530 tomorrow. Just when I am all snuggled in and sleeping really well, boom the alarms go off. Drat.

Interesting week at work. Lots of things that I wonder where the stuff is going and who is taking it. Things that I wouldn't think of putting in the belly of any airplane going anywhere, I-Phones, Louis Vuitton wallets, D&G sunglasses, Bvlgari jewelry. Unless I was flying private I wouldn't even consider checking those things. Or my laptop or anything valuable. I'd carry it with me or leave it home. There are too many crooks not in the security business to count. And if you see an expensive suitcase what is to say that it won't be rifled through by the ramp people? They aren't making any money. Especially the contractors.

There was a temper tantrum somewhere in the warehouse today but I don't know who was the recipient of it. It wasn't me. Although I had my own trial by fire. A congressional investigation regarding a lost item has hit us. A racist biddy who was sure that someone was going to steal her identity and run off with her life. She was nasty and not very nice. That week I had 2 people that I had to deal with nastiness and I sure didn't need that. Things have been pretty good since then, knock on wood. I've worked hard to have a good phone persona and a good attitude even if I have to repeat the same thing 19 times. And those 2 nasties occured on my 2nd week on the job. Not even 7 days into working the desk. I was still scared and inexperienced. Now I can deal with tantrums from the customers.

So on those thoughts::::

Yeah that's right.....

And believe me if that was the truth, I would have had to shoo the boys off my porch with a broom. But books have never pissed me off, caused me grief or stood me up. Guess that is why I love them so.

The phone never stops ringing at work. I try to keep the incoming calls to under 5 minutes because I know that there will be 6 voice mails waiting. Today was busy. The PTB changed my schedule to 0700-1530 which is good for me. But I feel like I have to beg the person who is supposed to relieve me ( or tap me out) when I go home. It's not fair. I work my butt off and they can sit in the back and only deal with a small % of the calls I get. They enter items, check emails, answer faxes and I do the front desk. I talk to an awful lot of people and direct them to the correct place if we aren't it.

Well it's another night. So
